Make Moving Easy: Packing Tips
When you have finally found the perfect new apartment, you may be ecstatic about the move until you remember that you have to pack up every bit of your belongings. Packing is never a fun task, especially when you have to pack up an entire home. Here are some useful tips that will relieve some of the stress that typically comes along with packing up for a move:
Rent Moving Boxes
If you have moved before, you know that packing supplies can burn a hole in your pocket. Purchasing enough packing supplies to move a one-bedroom apartment can cost hundreds, and those packing supplies will end up being thrown out after the move is over. If you are unable to locate any free moving boxes close by, consider renting plastic moving boxes. They can end up costing half the price of cardboard boxes and they are crushproof and waterproof. Many plastic box rental companies wash the boxes between rentals as well.
DIY Packing Material
Packing materials such as bubble wrap and packing peanuts are just another expense that will end up in the trash once the move is over. You may choose to use towels, sheets, or even clothing to protect your fragile items, but this will result in a large laundry load at the end of the day. Instead, use a paper shredder to get rid of the paper clutter that you don’t need to take with you to your new home. Rather than throwing away the shreds, use them to cushion your breakable items. Put the shreds inside a plastic grocery bag and tie a knot at the top to prevent them from spilling out. You can also use plastic bottles to keep items from shifting around in boxes.
Small Items
Keep small items like cords, furniture screws, and important papers safe by storing them in transparent Ziplock bags. Consider labeling cords individually, such as printing their names via label maker, and grouping them by device in labeled bags.
Essentials
When moving, it is inevitable that you are going to need certain things before you begin unpacking, like toilet paper or trash bags. You may need to wipe down countertops, and no one wants to have to take a trip to the store in the middle of moving because the disinfecting wipes are nowhere to be found. Pack a box of first day essentials, such as wipes, tools, paper towels, trash bags, multipurpose spray cleaner, and a few bottles of water.
